This collection assesses the situation of women in the Caribbean region in the period since the 1995 Beijing Conference. They examine a range of issues including education, poverty, decision-making and violence and conclude that while women have made gain in some areas, such gains have not led to greater security and personal autonomy for women.

The contributors also attempt to link years of research and action to specific governmental programmes focusing on women in an effort to derive more effective policy and programme action.
